WHY ACQUIRE A
STABILITY 66?
VERY
SIMPLY, IT EXPANDS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY THE WATER! WHEN WAS THE
LAST TIME YOU SAW A 66 FOOT YACHT RUNNING ON THE FLATS IN LESS THAN
3 FEET OF WATER? MAYBE, YOU DON'T INTENTIONALLY WANT TO RUN ON THE
FLATS, HOWEVER, THERE ARE MANY ADVANTAGES TO NAVIGATING IN SHALLOW
WATER.
YOU CAN GET CLOSE TO THE BEACH. YOU CAN BE A LOT MORE RELAXED WHILE
OPERATING THE VESSEL SINCE YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT RUNNING
AGROUND
IF YOU STRAY SLIGHTLY FROM A CHARTED COURSE OR THE CHANNEL. BETTER YET,
YOU CAN GO ANYWHERE YOUR "CURIOSITY TAKES YOU"!
ON
THE OTHER END OF THE SCALE, A FISHING TRIP OFFSHORE CAN BE
RUINED BECAUSE THE SEAS GET ROUGH. THE STABILITY 60 WILL STILL BE
COMFORTABLE WELL AFTER MUCH LARGER VESSELS HAVE HEADED FOR SHORE.
THIS
YACHT MAKES THE PERFORMANCE OF EVERY FUNCTION REQUIRED AT
SEA AS SIMPLE AND TROUBLE FREE AS POSSIBLE. THE OVERALL DESIGN
PHILOSOPHY
DICTATES THAT A DISABLED PERSON CONFINED TO A WHEELCHAIR CAN OPERATE
THE
VESSEL AND LIVE ABOARD WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. TO THIS END, THE YACHT MEETS
ALL FEDERAL DISABILITY CODES. FEATURES THAT ACCOMMODATE THE DISABLED,
SUCH AS THE PERSONAL LIFT TO THE PILOT'S STATION, MAY NOT BE REQUIRED
DEPENDING ON THE OWNERS NEEDS. THE ABSENCE OF THIS EQUIPMENT HAS NO
EFFECT ON THE INTERIOR APPEARANCE AND CAN BE EASILY ADDED IN THE FUTURE.
YOU
PROBABLY WOULDN'T PURCHASE A HOME IF YOU HAD TO UTILIZE A STANDARD
SET OF FURNISHINGS PROVIDED BY THE BUILDER. AN ACTUAL SCENARIO
DEMONSTRATES THE FLEXIBILITY FOUND IN THIS VESSEL. THE OWNER OF A
NICELY
APPOINTED STABILITY 60 HOSTED A PARTY. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THAT SAME
OWNER
WAS GOING OFFSHORE FISHING WITH FRIENDS. TO PREPARE THE VESSEL, HE
ROLLED
UP THE CARPET AND REPLACED THE FURNITURE WITH HIS PATIO FURNITURE. UPON
RETURNING FROM FISHING, HE PRESSURE WASHED THE ENTIRE VESSEL-INSIDE AND
OUT.
WHY DOESN'T THIS SCENARIO RING TRUE? YOUR FIRST THOUGHT IS, HOW CAN
ANYONE
MOVE FURNITURE UP AND DOWN STAIRS THROUGH SMALL PASSAGEWAYS INTO THE
CABIN
AND OVER THE GUNNEL TO THE DOCK? NO PROBLEM FOR THE STABILITY OWNER.
THERE
IS OVER A 5.5 FOOT WIDE CLEARANCE INTO THE CABIN WITH NO INCLINES OR
STAIRS AND THE ELEVATOR WILL BRING YOU AND THE FURNITURE TO DOCK LEVEL.
WHATEVER
YOU WISH TO ACHIEVE ON THE WATER, A VAST AMOUNT OF ENGINEERING HAS GONE
INTO THE STABILITY 60 TO MAKE IT AS EASY AND AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE.
No Rocking & Easy!
(For non-masochists)
Please don’t
tell me I have to tolerate uncomfortable rocking while running
or drifting in 5-foot seas. Please don’t tell me I have to stay in the
channel
just because I have a 66x20 ft yacht. Please don’t tell me I have to
climb a
moving ladder to get back on the boat when I go swimming. I am just
getting
started on the totally unacceptable experiences associated with
boating. There
are more discussed later.

SWATH
.On land if
the surface you were walking on rocked like a boat in 3-5 foot
seas a yellow tape would be put up and it would be declared a danger
zone!
Unfortunately, you can’t avoid these conditions on a vessel by staying
on
inshore waterways where even large vessels are constantly steering into
wakes to
avoid violent rocking. Consequently how do you avoid those days when
the luxury
interior isn’t enough to mask your discomfort and your only wish is for
super
extra-strength motion sickness pills? The answer can be found in SWATH
(Small
Waterplane Area Twin Hull) technology. This is a mature technology used
by the
military and for deep-sea research ships. Until now, it has not been
available
in a private yacht. Very simply the hull form reduces the upward forces
on the
vessel as the wave passes through. The biggest advantage comes in a
beam sea
because the technology significantly reduces the vessel’s vertical
movement
and totally eliminates the quick jarring movements.

If you are
operating in quiet seas and no longer require the SWATH stability
you can raise the hulls out of the water by pushing a few buttons. Now
you have
a power catamaran. Yes this vessel totally changes its operating
characteristics
to accommodate your needs and existing conditions!

Power
Catamaran
You can
navigate in less than 2 feet of water and go over crab trap lines
without experiencing that tension felt when you think about the
inconvenience
and cost of fixing the shafts and propellers you are about to destroy.
With the
jet drives, extremely light weight, and 18 inch shallow draft we were
able to
install a system on the boat that allows you to pull yourself off if
you should
go aground. So go ahead drive it right up on the beach and enjoy the
shaded
beach and water.

The next
time you are going on to the roof of your house, place the ladder as
vertical as possible, then have some one shake it as your going up, but
why stop
there, try putting a scuba tank and weight belt on as well. This is the
same set
of conditions you encounter trying to get back on a boat after swimming
or
diving. You may have heard of the technological breakthrough that will
solve
this problem, it is called an elevator. This elevator goes 2 feet below
the
water so you can float on and then be lifted to deck level.

An even
worse situation arises when boarding from a tender, both boats are
moving and the tender is very unstable due to its size. We totally
avoid this
situation by piloting the tender over the elevator and raising the
tender to
deck level where you can easily step out. Another potentially difficult
situation arises when a visiting boat has a different step off level
than the
host boat. We had some fun when a Coast Guard RIB approached us and. T
the
officer said, "We spotted you through our binoculars and thought you
were
from NASA.". They requested and were given permission to board. They
did
not realize that we had an elevator and we did not inform them just to
see what
they would do. They circled the vessel several times trying to figure
out how to
board. We finally relented and removed the back rail and lowered the
elevator to
the RIB. The officer was on board in less that one than half step, and
you
should have seen the big smile on his face.
I also don’t
like being told that if I put a big hole in the hull, the
vessel will sink to the sea bottom. This vessel has separate sealed
compartments
all equipped with pumps. For example, a large puncture from a submerged
log
causes two compartments to flood. The vessel will still operate and get
you
home. Let’s look at an even worse scenario. Suppose you run across
rocks and
rip open all compartments., In this case, you won’t be able to operate
the
vessel but it will not sink, keeping you out of the
water while you radio
for assistance.
By comparison, a single nine-inch hole in the hull of most large yachts
will put
them on the sea bottom and you in the water.
Safety
features not normally available on other vessels
include system redundancy. The port and starboard engines are totally
separate
systems with their own fuel tanks, batteries and electrical loads. For
example,
if a fault occurred that caused the port batteries to discharge, you
can
temporarily link the starboard to the port system and recharge the
batteries.
The normal diesel reliability is therefore enhanced because
they are
totally isolated from each other. Therefore, the chance of losing both
engines
is quite remote. The engines meet Tier 2 emission standards
and will run even
if you loose an alternator or plug your water intake. When
the water intake is
plugged the engine will run at slow speed with internal water-cooling.
The vessel
runs level not bow up, there are no stairs to negotiate because
everything is on one level and of course the vessel is stable in the
SWATH
operating mode. This makes walking on the vessel relatively safe. There
are no
exposed propellers, so you are safe if you are in the water and someone
starts
the engines by mistake.
Fire is
always a more frightening experience on the water, especially if you
are trapped on the vessel. The structural material of the Stability 60
is
non-flammable.
However, if
you add burning fuel, the heat will decompose the material. An
optional A fire suppression system is available for the engine
compartments.
This system automatically shuts off the diesel fuel and
extinguishes the
fire.
Now that we
have resolved those issues that can really ruin your day like
violent rocking, grounding, sinking to the bottom, and general safety.
Let us
address the minor irritations. Docking is made simple by joystick
control; with
computer controlled commercial jet drives the boat moves sideways when
you push
the joystick in that direction. Pushing a button launches the anchor
and another
button is pushed to retrieve it. The anchor automatically stops when it
is fully
retrieved. Cleaning is simple there are no areas to trap water and
dirt; even
the stanchions are secured below the deck. The entire boat can be
cleaned in
less than 1 hour. There is standing access on all sides of the engines
to
simplify routine maintenance.
By now you
are probably getting the message that we are serious about the
word "Easy" in the title of this article. Lets take easy
to the next level. A paraplegic with only enough body strength to do a
horizontal transfer (not an athlete) and is confined to a wheel chair
will be
able to: board the vessel; pilot the vessel offshore; anchor; go
swimming;
reboard the vessel; pull anchor; return; dock the vessel; and depart
the boat
alone with no assistance. Please do not attempt this with any vessel
but a
Stability 60 or it may result in severe injury or death.

Other areas
of concern are the costs of owning a yacht. Advanced materials
and construction techniques allow you to say goodbye to the high cost
of
deep-water real estate and marinas. You can leave this vessel in 2+
feet of
water or put it on a standard 20,000 lb four post lift. Since the
entire vessel
is made out of epoxy you never have to worry about blistering. The
vessel is
very miserly with fuel getting 3 miles per gallon at 8 knots and 1.8
miles per
gallon at 20 knots with top speeds approaching 30 knots. A reasonably
appointed
Stability 60 will cost $699,000.
Now that we
know how inexpensive it is to own this yacht and that the
environment on board will be relaxed and comfortable let’s have some
fun. The
vessel always gets plenty of attention. We are often photographed while
on the
water. We usually draw out a curious law enforcement officer as well,
so if you
intend to do anything illegal on the water, this probably isn’t the
vessel for
you!
The Stability
60 even has something for thrill seekers, a reinforced
roof that allows for the landing of a small helicopter. The
helicopter shown was designed by some of the same engineers who helped
design
the Stability 60. In addition, while the helicopter shown does not
require a
pilot’s license to operate. It is the only ultra-lite helicopter and
you do
not require a pilot’s license to fly it. However, we would recommend
you have
a lot of practice before attempting this maneuver. We often tease the
sport fish
owners, telling them we have the tallest tuna tower. If you’re a
serious
fisherman or woman this vessel turns into a fishing machine in about 5
minutes.
Each stanchion will accept a snap in rod holder and down riggers mount
on the
air intakes. All fishing equipment can also disappear with out a trace
in 5
minutes.
If you would
like to look at the fish instead of catch them there is a
Brownie’s Third Lung Hookah system built in to make diving much easier.
It
provides an air hose to dive with so you don’t need to carry heavy
tanks with
you.

For those of
us who are a little less daring, a water slide provides plenty
of fun for children and adults. Just pull up to the shoreline on a
secluded
island and "slide" away.

If
your idea of connecting with the sky, wind, and water is not from the
seat
of a helicopter you can do that while relaxing on the fly bridge of our
SPORTS
60 F model.

This is the
important part of the article, it really doesn’t matter what we
want in a vessel, what counts is what you want.
There is a 40-foot by
18-foot cabin with additional storage that you can lay out and furnish
to your
personal tastes. This may be a great way to evoke interest and
ownership from a
reluctant spouse especially since we have made boating comfortable.
Tankage is
flexible to meet your operational needs. If you’re a long time boater
you
probably have a sizeable wish list. Please share your wishes with us so
we can
provide the very best boating experience.
